Yesterday I dropped in at Planet M to pick up the DVD of Transformers 2, and I was shocked to see pirated versions of all the latest movies and chartbusters being sold right at its door step. When I informed the store manager, he was least bothered, and that was even more shocking.
Indifference to rampant piracy is the root of this thriving business. One would have expected the educated masses to take a stand against piracy and reject all pirated movies and music. But the business thrives because we are ignorant of its implications and look at saving few bucks for the sake of poor quality entertainment and buy the trash off the roads and download the pirated versions from the internet.
Piracy is equivalent to stealing one's daily bread. Imagine having worked very hard throughout the month, and when pay day arrives, some hacker gatecrashes into your online savings accounts and diverts the entire amount to his account.
You are left with zilch.
We should realise that artists and musicians work very hard to come out with a DVD / VCD. The price tag of 199 INR or 499 INR is the sum total of their toil and sweat, and the royalty which needs to pay to them for every record sold of the shelf. We should appreciate this and learn to pay for our entertainment.
Would you have appreciated someone else getting all the credit for the hardwork you have done?
If the answer to the question is NO, then half the battle against the piracy pandemic has been won.
Say NO to piracy.
Worthy cause, Bava. Unfortunately I don't think this will have too many supporters
